My Story

I am taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak and the world's highest freestanding mountain. I am doing so to support Dig Deep who believe every resident in Kenya has a fundamental right to access clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene.

A little bit about me first;

I am a second-year geography and sustainable development student and will be St Andrews team leader this year. Along with my own fundraising, I will support the charity to recruit climbers, raise money and support my teammates.

Studying geography has opened my field of view on hygiene and water-related issues occurring across our world. A basic necessity that many do not have access to. Having the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro is a bucket list adventure for any geographer, and supporting the charity simultaneously gives the adventure purpose and meaning. Additionally, I hope I will be able to visit some of the projects the charity are working on, on the ground.

A little bit more about the charity;

Dig Deep work in Bomet County, Kenya, home to 1 million people and one of the most underserved and least resourced areas of the country. Here, 2 out of 3 people don't have clean water, over half don't have safe toilets and children don't have access to basic hygiene education.

Through helping children and their families to realise their right to clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene, your support will save lives, improve education, empower women and girls and strengthen livelihoods.

My overall fundraising target is £2990
50% of which goes directly to accelerating access to water, sanitation and good hygiene in Bomet County, Kenya
50% of which goes towards my expedition costs (not including flights, I am paying for these myself)

Any support to help me reach my target is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Aidan :)
