My Story
Hi! I'm Monique, a second year Economics and Finance student at UEA!
I am taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak and the world's tallest freestanding mountain, to support Dig Deep, a charity close to my heart. As a Kikuyu Kenyan, I know firsthand the importance of access to clean water, and I'm committed to helping communities in Bomet County overcome the water crisis they are facing.
Bomet County, home to over 1 million people in southwest Kenya, is one of the most underserved regions in the country. Right now, 2 out of 3 people don't have access to clean water, over half lack safe toilets, and many children miss out on basic hygiene education. This affects health, education, and economic opportunities, especially for women and girls.
Your donation can make a real difference:
- £16 can provide a set of taps, giving pupils and teachers safe access to clean water.
- £50 can help install a rainwater harvesting system, ensuring families have a reliable water source.
Every £1 we raise is equivalent to £3-£4 in Bomet, meaning your support goes even further in transforming lives.
50% of what I fundraise will directly accelerate access to water, sanitation, and hygiene in Bomet, while the other 50% will go towards my expedition costs (excluding flights, which I am covering myself). The climb is ethically approved by Responsible Trekking Organisation, ensuring fair pay for local porters and guides.
I am extremely grateful for any help you can give me! Thank you so much for your time!
